“Configuration – the cornerstone of digital sales strategy!” was the theme of the encoway e-Day 2017, which took place on 15 March at Festo AG & Co. KG. Around 220 participants were able to learn about current challenges, strategies and successful practical examples relating to the topic of digitisation. The wide variety and the special mix and quality of the lectures, the unique ambience of the venue at Festo and the pleasant and open atmosphere were particularly well received by the participants.
The breaks, during which excellent food was provided, were actively used for conversations and discussions. The exciting demonstrations by Festo's Bionic Learning Network added even more variety to the proceedings.
During the introduction to the event, the enhancement of encoway’s solution competence through the takeover of the cloud and IoT service provider logicline was officially announced for the first time. Logicline colleagues were also on site and were available for questions during the breaks.

A wide variety of lecture
Member of the Board at encoway Klaas Nebuhr hosted the interesting event day. Following the welcome and introduction by encoway CEO Christoph Ranze, and Dr Markus Junginger, Vice President Information Management Administration, PLM & Americas at Festo, Dr Roger Kehl opened the lecture series. Dr Kehl, CIO and Member of the Executive Committee at Festo, gave an insight into the current strategic steps and the new role of IT in the age of digitisation. He highlighted new challenges for IT managers with examples from the “Factory IT” as well as from the areas of IoT and “People & Collaboration”.
During his 45-minute lecture, Jan-Christoph Horstmann from Technical Sales at encoway showed how easy it is to create sales and e-commerce solutions from a product structure with encoway CPQ. The participants were given a clear and entertaining impression of the functionality and usability of the encoway products and tools.
Dr Stefan Etzold, Head of Sales & Marketing at Feintool Technologie AG, then gave a reference lecture, which explained Feintool’s path towards “Sales 4.0” for products that require explanation. He gave an insight into the goals and achievements so far, including the CPQ solution from encoway.
He also highlighted the obstacles and resistance that had to be overcome and those that still need to be addressed. As regards the unstoppable progress of digitisation, he believes the industry is still not properly prepared and opened a discussion on this topic.
Florian Kondert from the “Zukunftsinstitut” provided food for thought about the concept of complexity over time from a different perspective. He encouraged the listeners to develop a new attitude that welcomes complexity and leads to increasing uncertainty competency.
Dr Rainer Babiel, Managing Director of Babiel GmbH, presented specific solutions as examples of how industrial companies can rise to meet today's expectations. His lecture included various customer-centric e-commerce solutions for marketing, sales and services and the foundation required for them.
And finally, “Excellence in Digital Marketing” was the topic of the lecture by Stefan Derenthal, Director Marketing Communication at Phoenix Contact. He illustrated the development of the approach taken by Phoenix Contact to answer the following questions: How can our customers find the right product/set? How can we offer our customers value? How can we master this product diversity?
