Knowledge-based configuration is one of the 10 most important technologies in the history of AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the theme of the Year of Science 2019. To further familiarise the general public with AI, the German Informatics Society (GI), together with a jury, has honoured the ten most influential people and technologies in the still-young history of AI in Germany. The selection process took place as part of the project “#KI50: Artificial Intelligence in Germany – yesterday, today, and tomorrow”.
Knowledge-based configuration is, in the opinion of the jury, one of the ten most important technologies because it is highly relevant to applications in, among other things, industrial contexts. Today more than ever, in times of customised production and delivery, knowledge-based configurations are essential components of modern ERP systems.
In the jury’s appraisal, encoway was singled out as one of the companies that made product configuration, nowadays usually known as CPQ, ready for the market and thus internationally competitive. Christoph Ranze, Managing Director of encoway, was mentioned as one of the key people involved in the development of knowledge-based configuration.
Another encoway pioneer, Prof. Dr. Otthein Herzog, was also honoured as one of the ten most influential people in the history of AI. Read more in this news report “encoway pioneer honoured for his work on AI”.
